Ardnahoe 5-Year-Old Cask Strength

Ardnahoe is Islay's ninth and newest distillery, founded by independent bottlers Hunter Laing & Co, with distillation starting in 2018 and doors opening to the public in 2019. It sits on the island's north-east coast, between Bunnahabhain and Caol Ila, looking out across the Sound of Islay to Jura. This Cask Strength Edition is the third permanent release in the core range, joining Bholsa and Infinite Loch. It's composed exclusively of spirit matured in first-fill bourbon barrels, hand selected for their fullness of character. Bottled at 60.9% ABV, non-chill filtered, natural colour.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Smoky but well balanced and well integrated. Sweet smoke, mineral citrus tang, and vanilla ice cream in a waffle cone.

Palate: Coastal, charcoal, sweet BBQ meat. Savoury, spicy, a touch of mint. Mouth-watering.

Finish: Smoky bacon, lingering, dried fruit, grassy.

A powerful, youthful expression that shows real ambition from one of Islay's newest names. The high strength lets that peppery, ashy smoke style shine while still leaving room for the fruit and sweetness underneath. One to watch as the distillery matures.
