Benromach Peat Smoke

A bestseller and ongoing small batch release from Benromach's Contrasts range, a series built to be innovative and to contrast against the core range house style. With Peat Smoke, that means going punchier on peated barley. Where the core range sits around 10-12 PPM, this release jumps right up, the latest batches landing around 57 PPM, rivalling some of the big Islay names. Matured exclusively in first-fill bourbon barrels, giving it those signature sweet vanilla, lemon sherbet and apricot notes. The most recent batch was distilled in 2014 and bottled in 2024, aged 9 years. Bottled at 46% ABV, no added colour.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Rich smoke with fragrant vanilla and light citrus zest. Apples and white chocolate, with honey and a touch of apricot underneath.

Palate: Smooth, with toasted oak, honey and sweet ripe fruit. Butterscotch, marshmallow and lemon sherbet, all wrapped up in sweet smoke.

Finish: Mouth coating and warm, finishing on bonfire embers and lingering peat.

Proof that Speyside can go toe to toe with Islay on smoke. What makes it interesting is the contrast, that classic Benromach sweetness and fruit sitting right alongside serious peat, so it never feels one dimensional.
