Octomore 16.2 offers a richer, more layered take on Bruichladdich’s iconic super‑heavily peated style. Bottled at natural cask strength, this expression builds upon Octomore’s raw peat power by introducing deeper oak influence and enhanced complexity through varied cask maturation.
Made using 100% Scottish barley and matured in a combination of oak casks that bring greater depth and spice, Octomore 16.2 balances formidable smoke with rounded sweetness and structure. As with all Bruichladdich releases, it is uncoloured and non‑chill filtered, preserving the whisky’s full intensity and texture.
Tasting Notes
Nose:
Dense peat smoke rises immediately, darker and richer in profile—think smouldering embers and damp earth. Beneath the smoke lie notes of dried fruit, toasted oak, dark chocolate, and subtle spice, with hints of orange peel and coastal salinity adding lift.
Palate:
Powerful and full‑bodied, with an assertive smoky core. Charcoal, spicy oak, and earthy peat unfold alongside deeper sweetness—caramelised sugars, roasted malt, and gentle dried fruit tones. Mid‑palate warmth builds with cracked pepper and a touch of tannin, adding structure and grip.
Finish:
Exceptionally long and warming. Heavy smoke lingers with oak spice, cocoa powder, and a faint saline edge, gradually softening into a dry, smoky sweetness that fades slowly.
