Octomore 16.3 represents the purest expression of terroir within the Octomore series. Crafted exclusively from single‑estate Islay barley grown on Octomore Farm, this super‑heavily peated single malt pushes intensity to remarkable heights while retaining elegance and balance. Matured for five years in a combination of ex‑bourbon, ex‑Sauternes, and ex‑Pedro Ximénez casks, and bottled at natural cask strength, it is a powerful yet precise whisky that showcases Bruichladdich’s commitment to provenance, transparency, and flavour above all else.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Honeyed malt and toasted cereal emerge first, wrapped in earthy peat smoke. Subtle salinity and a fresh maritime breeze follow, alongside floral honey, citrus peel, and delicate notes of dried stone fruit and chocolate from the wine‑influenced oak.
Palate
Immense and structured, delivering waves of sweet malt, smoked oak, and coastal sea spray. Rich flavours of toffee, sultana cake, candied citrus, and dark chocolate unfold beneath the peat, balanced by cereal sweetness and warming spice.
Finish
Long, bold, and enduring. Coastal salinity and smoky floral notes linger, softened by honeyed sweetness and wine‑seasoned oak, leaving a powerful yet remarkably refined conclusion.
