Finlaggan Port Wood

Finlaggan Port Wood is a richly flavoured Islay single malt that combines classic coastal peat smoke with the sweetness of port‑seasoned casks. Distilled on Islay and matured initially in oak, this whisky is finished in port barrels, adding depth, fruit richness, and contrast to the smoky core. Bottled by an independent producer, it offers an approachable yet characterful take on peated Islay whisky, balancing smoke, sweetness, and warmth.

Tasting Notes

Nose
Soft peat smoke rises gently from the glass, layered with red berries, dark fruit syrup, and a hint of maritime salinity. Subtle notes of vanilla, cocoa, and spiced oak sit beneath the fruit.

Palate
Smooth and rounded, with sweet port‑influenced flavours of plum, raisin, and berry compote upfront. These are balanced by earthy peat smoke, mild spice, and toasted oak, creating a harmonious interplay of richness and smoke.

Finish
Medium to long, warming and softly smoky, with lingering sweet fruit, gentle peat, and a light drying oak note on the close.
