Teerenpeli 10 Year Old
Teerenpeli was founded in Lahti, Finland in 2002, and this was the first ever 10 year old single malt to come out of Finland when it launched in 2015. The name comes from the Finnish word for the black grouse, which sits stamped on the bottle's wooden cork top. Matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, roughly 85/15. Bottled at 43% ABV.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Creamy toffee, sweet vanilla and strong malt character. A lemony brightness with soft floral notes, plus a hint of coconut. Grows fruitier with a light saline edge as it opens up.
Palate: Oily and full textured. Apples and caramelised sugar, custard, black pepper and toasted oak. A distinctive note of licorice and salmiak (salty liquorice) comes through, a real signature of Finnish flavour.
Finish: Medium to long, warming, with vanilla, toast and lingering spice.
A genuinely different single malt experience thanks to that salmiak character, distinctly Nordic and worth trying if you want something outside the usual Scotch and Japanese lineup.
