I was in Taiwan for literally just a couple of hours, barely enough time for a coffee. Somehow, I ended up staring at a bottle I’d never seen before: Tsing Tao Single Malt. The guy at the counter suggested it was aged in Mizunara oak, which piqued my curiosity. I liked the taste, so I bought a bottle.

I got back home and looked it up and with the help with chat gpt translte  it wasn’t Mizunara, but Mongolian oak and bourbon—definitely a case of lost in translation.

"*Cask Maturation: Mongolian oak casks and bourbon barrels.

Color: Bright amber.

Aroma: Oriental sandalwood, fresh grass, green apple and lemon, woody notes, and honey.

Palate: Easy-drinking, full of fruitiness, with light chocolate notes and a hint of smoke on the finish.

Finish: Warm, with pleasant lingering fruit aromas and the sweet scent of fruit hard candy.

It’s definitely an interesting whisky. if you want to taste something unique and made by a beer brand! definitely would recommend :)

Qingdao Whisky — China’s First Whisky!

After more than a century, as China’s earliest whisky brand, we have remained committed to creating high-quality whisky for the Chinese people, continuously pushing forward toward that goal.

Though the journey has been full of difficulties, we have never forgotten our original intention. Today, using modern whisky-making techniques, we take only the 18% “heart cut” as the new-make spirit for whisky production — a true expression of our dedication to quality and our mission."
