Yuza Special Blend
Yuza Distillery sits in Yamagata Prefecture at the foot of Mount Chokai, Japan's snow country, and is one of the newer names making serious waves in Japanese whisky. Their stills were built by Forsyths in Speyside, with the wash still modelled on Macallan and the spirit still on GlenDronach, so there's real Scotch pedigree behind the design. This Special Blend brings together Japanese malt and grain whisky matured across Mizunara oak, American oak and sherry casks. Bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered, no added colour.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Stewed rhubarb, Jersey caramel and baked apple turnover. Soft spice starts to build underneath.
Palate: Sweet and rounded. Caramel and stone fruit up front, with warming Mizunara spice coming through, that distinct sandalwood and coconut note the oak is known for.
Finish: Medium length, spiced and a little woody, with the Mizunara influence lingering longest.
A great entry point into Japanese whisky for someone who's only tried the big names. Approachable, fruity and with that unmistakable Mizunara signature running through it.
